Neptune Beach, Fla. – An extensive amount of unprocessed marijuana has been discovered along the shoreline of Neptune Beach in Florida, forming a substantial patch on the sand.

A concerned bystander contacted local law enforcement early Sunday morning to report an unusual accumulation of what appeared to be ” seaweed “washed up on the beach. Upon closer examination, it was identified as a significant quantity of marijuana.

Bryan Crews, who was enjoying the beach that day, likened the site to a scene from a television series, noting, “The entire stretch was filled with marijuana. Though I can’t speak from personal experience, it could have amounted to five to ten pounds, based on what I’ve seen on tv.”

Police took to social media, sharing images to advise the public against attempting to collect the marijuana or transport it home. The authorities emphasized that the substance had undergone degradation and decomposition, lending it a deteriorated and malodorous quality. Additionally its resemblance to sargassum, a type of brown seaweed, could lead to confusion.

Zach West, a visitor to the beach, sensed something was amiss when he encountered the marijuana. “I did handle it briefly and sniffed it to identify the smell, and it was definitely marijuana. I found that pretty astounding,” he recounted. Prompted by his discovery, West’s mother promptly contacted emergency services. Their primary concern revolved around the potential danger, especially to children, and the possibility of the marijuana being contaminated with substances like fentanyl.

Law enforcement officers swiftly arrived at the scene to manage the situation and initiate clean up efforts.

Authorities have theorized that a considerable quantity of marijuana may have “split open while at sea and dispersed prior to washing ashore.” Ownership of the substance remains unclear.
